This green smoothie smoothie recipe is perfect for resetting your body and filled with many skin-loving nutrients from the kale, chia seeds, and banana.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes a green smoothie just feels… right.
Whether you need a reset after a weekend of indulging or are just craving greens, a good green smoothie is a perfect way to pack in tons of nutrients into one cup.
I have noticed that on mornings when I start my day with something this nourishing I am so motivated to make healthy choices throughout the day.
This is the perfect great green smoothie recipe if you typically do not like the taste of greens, as the main taste comes from the fruit, lemons, and ginger. This smoothie is naturally sweetened with fuji apple and banana, taking away the bitterness from the greens.
So, What Is Better… Juice or Smoothie?
This smoothie is superior to a green juice for 2 reasons.
1.) It has more nutrients (especially fiber) than a juice, as many nutrients are lost during the juicing process. Produce is not cheap, and I prefer to get all of the nourishment I can from what I buy!
2.) Because this smoothie contains banana, nut milk, and chia seeds (which could not be used in a juice) it is richer in protein, fiber, and omegas. It will be much more filling and satisfying than juice.
Kale:
Rich in iron, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins K & C, calcium, and many other valuable nutrients that can help prevent various health problems. (1)
Bananas:
High in potassium (good for heart health and blood pressure), manganese (a skin loving nutrient), and contains a respectable amount of Vitamin C. Bananas are rich in carbohydrates (for natural energy) and contribute to the feeling of fullness. (2)
Chia Seeds:
Chia Seeds live up to the title “superfood” because of their rich nutrient density!
For such a small serving size they are incredibly high in the following: Fiber, Protein, Omega-3s, calcium (18% RDI), manganese (30% RDI), magnesium (30% RDI), and phosphorus. (3)
They make an incredible addition to any diet, especially those who are plant-based.
Tips For Making This Smoothie Perfect
- As the recipe states, it is very important to blend your liquids, leafy greens, and chia seeds first. This ensures the ingredients are fully processed giving the smoothie a smooth texture, and making it easy for your body to digest.
- I highly recommend that you use frozen banana! Using frozen banana really takes this smoothie to the next level giving it a cold & creamy texture.
- Juice your lemon in a small cup rather than over your blender. You want to make sure you do not accidentally drop any lemon seeds in, which will make your smoothie bitter.
