This blog post is all about fungal-acne safe skincare minimalism. Specifically, if I had to have only four skincare products what would I choose and why. I have created a four-product skincare routine that is everything needed for both AM & PM. The best part is that these products are 100% safe for those who have Fungal Acne / Malassezia Folliculitis.
I know how overwhelming it can be to find the most effective skincare products. It has taken me years to establish a few key products that I can trust and repurchase again & again. I also know how easy it is to buy more than we need or to fall for products simply because of the packaging and promises the brands make. If you throw in having to look for products that are safe for fungal acne into the equation, then selecting the best skincare becomes are a very time-consuming and complicated task.
These four products are what I consider to be essential for me and what I would keep if I were downsizing to a minimalistic fungal acne skincare routine. These are products that I have used for years and I am confident that just these four alone could be an entirely effective skincare routine.

Recommended Products For A Minimalist Fungal Acne Skincare Routine:
Cleanser:
La Roche Posay Purifying Foaming Cleanser
I chose the La Roche Posay foaming cleanser because it is gentle but effective enough to breakdown even the toughest makeup. It is a foaming cleanser but is not drying to the skin in any way. Prebiotic Thermal Water is the first ingredient in this cleanser that has many benefits for the skin. Prebiotics help create a healthy environment for your skin’s microbiome.
Only 14.99 for 13.5 fluid ounces which is a great price for how much product you are getting. One bottle typically lasts me 5-6 months on average with daily use.
A few of the key ingredients that make this a stand out cleanser include Ceramide-3, Niacinamide, Prebiotic Thermal Water, and Glycerin. La Roche Posay Purifying Foaming Cleanser is an affordable cleanser than can be found anywhere in the U.S. You cannot go wrong with having this in your routine.

Sunscreen:
Elta-MD UV Clear Sunscreen in CLEAR
The Elta-MD UV Clear sunscreen in CLEAR (not tinted) is 100% safe for those with fungal acne and is hands down the best fungal acne safe sunscreen on the market. HANDS DOWN, in my opinion.
This sunscreen in clear has been essential in my skincare routine for a very long time and will continue to be! Elta MD UV Clear is formulated with 9% Zinc Oxide & 7.5 % Oxtinoxate for excellent UVA/UVB protection along with 5% Niacinamide (an incredible bonus to a sunscreen!).
This product is free of fragrance, parabens, oils, and sensitivities. It is a recommended product by the Skin Cancer Foundation and can found in dermatologist offices nationwide. That fact makes me confident in its quality and effectiveness in sun protection.
Zinc Oxide based sunscreens are notoriously known for their white cast. This product has done an excellent job of keeping that at a minimum. The white cast is faint and can easily be corrected with a BB cream or light powder. I love that this product has a lightweight, gel/water-like consistency rather than a heavy cream feel. It goes on easily and wears beautifully under makeup.

Serum:
Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Power Essence
What is Hyaluronic Acid? It is like a giant glass of water for your skin. It can hold up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water and it does so by binding water to your skin cells. This hydrates and plumps your skin giving a youthful look, naturally. Hyaluronic Acids are actually what make up a majority of cosmetic fillers. Applying topically to your skin consistently packs major hydration and texture benefits without the harmful risks of fillers.
In my experience with healing from fungal acne, I can say that adding this product into my routine was one of the major turning points of healing my skin. Focusing on hydration made all of the difference for me. Now, even when discussing a minimal skincare routine a hyaluronic acid product is non-negotiable. This particular HA product is my favorite for the following reasons.
It has a Ph of 6.5-7.5, under 10 total ingredients, and is around $20 for over 3fl. One bottle typically lasts me 4 months! This is the ONLY HA Essence you will ever need!

Moisturizer:
You may be wondering if it is okay to use this product on your face. The answer is absolutely, yes! CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is a wonderful option for an everyday moisturizer because it is formulated with 3 essential ceramides that repair the skin barrier and lock in moisture. CeraVe Moisturizing cream even has hyaluronic acid which as we discussed above, is always a great ingredient. I particularly love that this product is a heavier cream formula, as not many fungal acne safe moisturizers are. This is an excellent option for the winter months because it is so hydrating and protective. This tub is so much product that you can apply the moisturizer all over your neck, chest, and shoulders with out going through it quickly. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream can be found anywhere and is a steal for $15.
