This Hydrating Winter Skincare Routine will protect your skin from the colder months, is affordable, and is safe for fungal acne-prone skin types!
This 5 step hydrating winter skincare routine protects the skin from the colder months and prevents over-drying. I approach skincare in a preventative way by starting my winter skincare routine in the mid-fall. This prevents me from ever suffering from dry winter skin. In the past, I was so afraid to properly hydrate my skin because I believed that moisture leads to breakouts. After years of research and trial and error, I know that when my main skincare focus is on proper hydration, my skin’s overall appearance is at its absolute best.
This routine is specifically designed with sensitive skin types in mind, therefore will not cause irritation. This winter skincare routine is 100% fungal acne-safe! All five of the products included in this routine are safe to use if you have any for the following skin conditions:
- Atopic dermatitis
- Fungal Acne (Pityrosporum Folliculitis, Malesizia Folliculitis)
- Psoriasis
- Dandruff
- Seborrheic dermatitis
- Tinea versicolor
Make sure to read to the bottom, where I will show exactly how to order these five products for both the A.M. and P.M.
Step 1:
Double Cleanse Beginning With An Oil Based Moisturizing Cleanser
This hydrating winter skincare routine begins by double cleansing, first with the Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser. I know, not the most glamorous product… but hear me out. This moisturizing cleanser is formulated with 5 simple ingredients. The first ingredient is mineral oil, one of the few oils safe for fungal acne-prone skin types. Mineral oil makes this cleanser easily remove makeup and tough zinc oxide-based sunscreens without tugging or drying. Mineral oil can also smooth and soften the skin during the cleansing process, unlike other moisture stripping makeup removers.
Step 2:
Cleanse With A Hydrating Gentle Cleanser
After oil cleansing, cleanse the skin to ensure it is 100% clean with the La Roche Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser. This is an excellent cleanser option for the winter because of its hydrating properties. A few key hydrating ingredients in this cleanser include Ceramide 3, Niacinamide, and Glycerin. This is a perfect option for sensitive skin types with normal to dry skin. It is a huge bottle with a very generous amount of product that can last 4-6 months with daily use!

Step 3.)
Add In Extra Moisture With A Hyaluronic Acid Essence
Add in extra moisture with the Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence. Hyaluronic Acid is a powerful humectant, meaning it draws in water from its environment. You can think of hyaluronic acid as a magnet that attracts and maintains moisture by holding 1000 times its molecular weight in water. This prevents moisture loss giving your skin a hydrated and youthful look, naturally. This product is the most important step in my personal skincare routine and has been for over two years. I cannot say enough good things about it.

Step 4.)
Use A Chemical Exfoliant To Gently Exfoliate With Lactic Acid
To give this hydrating winter skincare routine a gentle dose of exfoliation, The Ordinary’s 10% Lactic Acid is the perfect product. Lactic Acid’s benefits include exfoliation, improves overall skin texture, increases cell turnover, kills bacteria, reduces wrinkles, and can even reduce acne.
Lactic Acid is sometimes referred to as Glycolic Acid’s little sister because it penetrates less deeply into the skin making it a better option for sensitive skin types. Personally, my skin burns to the point where I have to immediately wash off any product with glycolic acid in it. However, with lactic acid, I can use it daily with no burning or irritation. For those who consider their skin extremely sensitive, start out with this product in the 5% Lactic Acid strength and work your way up! For best results, use this product only in the evenings.

Step 5.)
Repair & Lock-In Moisturizer With CeraVe Moisturizing Cream
Formulated with 3 essential ceramides that repair the skin barrier and lock in moisture, CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is the perfect daily moisturizer for the winter. CeraVe Moisturizing cream even has hyaluronic acid in its formulation for added moisture maintenance. This product has a heavier cream formula, providing effective hydration for when your skin is left dry from cold weather. This tub is so much product that you can apply the moisturizer all over your neck, chest, and shoulders without going through it quickly. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream also works well on the hands to prevent winter drying.
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream can be found at all major drug stores and here on the Ulta Beauty Website.
AM ROUTINE
1.) Cleanse with the La Roche Posay Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. Then pat your skin dry leaving a bit of moisture.
2.) Evenly cover your skin with 2-3 pumps of the Cosrx HA Essence. Wait a few minutes for the essence to fully absorb into the skin.
3.) Apply an even layer of the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream all over your face, neck, chest, and shoulders.
4.) Apply an even layer of your favorite sunscreen. Even in the winter, it is still just as important to use an SPF. A personal favorite of mine is the Elta MD UV Clear Sunscreen. Allow a few minutes before applying makeup or going in the sun.
PM ROUTINE
1.) Begin by double cleansing with the Albolene Makeup Removing Cream to remove any makeup and sunscreen from the day.
2.) Cleanse with the La Roche Posay Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. Then pat your skin dry leaving a bit of moisture.
2.) Evenly cover your skin with two pumps of the Cosrx HA Essence. Wait a few minutes for the essence to fully absorb into the skin.
3.) Apply 1/3 of a dropper of The Ordinary’s Lactic Acid all over the face avoiding the eyes. Allow a few minutes for the product to absorb into the skin. I personally apply this product two evenings in a row and then give my skin one night of a break for the best results.
4.) Lastly, apply an even layer of the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream all over your face, neck, chest, and shoulders.
