Discover why Pilates is the best workout for women and learn the benefits of this incredible low-impact workout.
Claiming that Pilates is the best workout for women is a bold statement, as all bodies are so different. I may be biased, as pilates is my favorite form of workout, however, I am sticking to this conclusion. I will never stop being amazed at how these seemingly micro-movements done in a low-impact way can craft the most beautiful bodies and long lean muscles.
Pilates is for everyone. If you believe you aren’t capable of performing it, I am here to tell you otherwise. Pilates can be performed by women of any age. You can do Pilates at home or in the studio whether you are in your teens or 60+ years old. The reason that this form of exercise is suitable for all ages is because of its low impact on the body. But don’t be fooled, despite Pilate’s low impact, it is still a highly effective form of exercise.
Before you begin Pilates, you must learn several precautions. Pilates provides a variety of health benefits such as strengthening hips, abdominal muscles, and improving flexibility. Below I will outline all of the amazing benefits of Pilates and ways to get started as a beginner!
The Below Benefits Are Why Pilates Is The Best Workout For Women:
Relieves Back pain
You can reduce your back pain by strengthening your core muscles. By strengthening the lumbar-pelvic region of the core muscles, you can prevent stress on that area and make movement easier. Exercises like Pilates and yoga are excellent for toning the core muscles.
I get asked by my loved ones all the time if I ever experience back pain from spending so much time seated at my computer. The answer is always no because I practice Pilates and yoga regularly to counteract the effects of sitting so much. I also am able to maintain good posture while working on the computer because of the core strength and good habits I have developed from pilates.
Therefore, you can decrease your spine and back pain by performing Pilates regularly. If you are suffering from severe back pain or injury, consult your doctor and work with a professional Pilates instructor to avoid injury.
Boosts Coordination & Mind-Body Connection
You can tune into your mind, your body, and your breath with Pilates, just like with yoga. The combination of these three things allows you to feel their relationship.
In the process of exercising with this method, you will forget about any work-related tensions or different worries for the duration of the exercise. Your focus will be dominated by the moves, as well as the breath.
I always love watching how beginners strengthen their mind-body connection and coordination through this practice. In the beginning, when you tell someone to “bring their left arm to their right ankle” this takes so much thought. But, after a few weeks, it becomes effortless. As the core strength, flexibility, and mind-body connection grow stronger, pilates practitioners are able to move into expert postures easily.
Gets You In Shape
Pilates can burn up to 251 calories per hour for a beginner weighing 150 pounds, 350 calories for an intermediate, while 432 calories can be burnt by an advanced trainer.
The crisscross, heel ups, and plank jack are three of the best moves in Pilates for burning body fat. For the best results, use the necessary equipment, such as an exercise mat, Pilates reformer (if available to you), Pilate’s rings/balls, and weights. Work on your midsection and your core with these exercises.
I love that Pilates is such a convenient workout. Meaning it doesn’t exhaust you the way other exercises do. A Pilates workout leaves me energized, rather than drained. This allows me to be consistent rather than fall off of my routine in a few days.

Boosts Your Mental Power
Pilates helps prevent cerebral degenerative diseases and cognitive dysfunctions. Through this practice, you can improve your memory and neural network function, and all other cognitive functions.
Pilates also deserves the title of “thinking man’s exercise” due to the benefits it provides. It has been discovered that women’s brains’ alpha peak power can be improved by performing Pilates for at least 10 weeks continuously.
Improves Posture
Poor posture is primarily caused by upper back pain, lack of core strength, and lack of awareness. For lower back pain, Pilates is a great choice. You can align your spinal column if you follow the right technique when performing Pilates. Pilates actively strengthens the core causing you to stand taller and bring awareness to the body.
Your movement in Pilates needs to be coordinated with your breath. This results in the diaphragm expanding. And if you keep expanding your diaphragm repeatedly, you’ll be able to achieve a better posture and straighten your back. You get better posture, a stronger core, and well-stretched shoulders when you perform Pilates exercises.
Enhances Athletic Performance
Increasing the strength of several body muscles can help improve athletic performance, running, cycling, and cycling. Strengthening your core is what allows you to run at a fast speed, according to professionals. For better core strength, perform rolling like a ball as a Pilates move.
Your core muscles must be engaged accurately and effectively during this exercise. You can strengthen your core muscles by practicing this exercise at least five times.
To enhance your athletic performance, you can also perform other high-impact exercises like squats, push-ups, and pull-ups in addition to Pilates.
How To Get Started With Pilates?
In the beginning, I recommend working with an instructor just to be sure you have the correct posture and a grasp of the technique. It is important to establish strong habits to avoid injury and get the most out of your practice. If you have a background in ballet or yoga, you will already have a strong grasp of the techniques and postures.
I personally love to practice mat pilates from the comfort of my home. This saves me so much time in money! My favorite Pilates Instructors are Move With Nicole and Blogilates on youtube. Both of these are completely free. I also love Melissa Wood Health’s pilate-centered workouts. A subscription to her workout classes is only $10 a month!
